Gardens In Shanghai and China Town

We went to China Town and visited a garden, went to a silk factory, and went shopping in China town. It was quite an experience. There were so many people it was shoulder to shoulder you could hardly walk. There were so many different smells there. They had food on sticks some were pigeon and some tofu. Then we went to a Chinese restaurant. We sat around a round table which they brought food out onto a spinning glass dish. We weren't sure what we were eating except the one that had the fish head on it. We ate with chop sticks. After that we went to the JinMao Observatory 88. It is one of the tallest buildings in china. We rode the elevator to the 88 floor in 9 seconds it was so fast. When we got to the top you could see a panoramic view of Shanghai.

Feb. 20 Jade Budda Temple

Shanghai is a really neat place. There are a lot of sky scrapers. People live in apartments which they hang there clothes outside to dry. You see clothes on every street that you pass. They also hang fish and birds on the same clothes lines. Yuk!! The average income is $500 a month. Most people ride bikes or scooters. Just to pay for your license plates on your car is $5,000. We learned a word it is woine which means I Love You. We went to the Jade Budda Temple which was built in 1882. We saw a couple of monks while we were there. The people would go there a light inscents, there was smoke everywhere. While in the temple they had a tea ceremony for us.

Feb.19 Shanghai

Today is the last day of the Chinese New Year. it is a 15 day holiday and everyone takes off work and the children are out of school. They shoot off a lot of fireworks and firecrackers to celebrate. We went to the Shanghai Centre Theatre and watched the Shanghai Acrobatic. It was really good. They would do tricks with plates, gymnastics, and bend themselves in half while on little tables.

Trip To Asia Feb.17

We went on a cruise to Asia with Dave and Vicky. It took us 30 hours to get there. While we were at the airport a lot of the Asian people had moth balls in their suit case. It smelt aweful! When we got off the plane we had a one hour bus ride to our hotel. We stayed at the Longemont Shanghai. It was a 5 star hotel. The nicest hotel I have ever stayed in. One of the restaurants in the hotel was Chinese food. We looked at the menu and I am so glad we did. It had pictures of what you could order. Some of the things were a pig with the head still on, a goose with head on and a pink bow around it's neck, fish heads in a circle, and a real birds nest. I hurried and chose another place to eat so I wouldn't get sick.
